Bertie Bear

This adorable cutie-pie is from Sandra Polley's book The Knitted Teddy Bear. Took a while for me to make as I just finally learned seaming - well, just mattress stitch. Regardless, he's very sweet, patiently waiting for his blue shorts before being sent to my good friend Varina across the country ;)

Hi Jude! Your Bertie Bear turned out wonderfully! I started a Bertie Bear a little while ago, too, but he’s nowhere near done. Anyway, I was wondering what weight yarn you used and needles? I started mine with DK weight and size 3 needles, but would actually like my Bertie to be a little bigger when he’s done, so may start him again on worsted.

He turned out great.
I love his face! I don't think I am familiar with that book by Sandra Polley. I will have to look it up!

Thanks for the props, everyone!

Lynda - I did a LOT of research before deciding on this book, checking out reviews and eyeballing the Polley book. There actually isn't a lot out there on teddy bear patterns, but I thought Polley's was the best.

Sue - I used worsted weight Patons Classic Merino (don't know color, band is lost now), on size 3 needles. His "skin" has got a nice firm texture with the worsted on US 3's. He's about 6.5" tall seated. If you're on ravelry, gimme a shout - I'm lovechild, and there's more details on him there.

Again, thanks for the props! I'll post a new pic when he's got his shorts...
